Synopsis:

Following the economic collapse of a company town Empire in rural Nevada, Fern, a stoical, hard-working widow in her early 60s, who has lived her entire adult life in a company house provided by the company, packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

Nomadland premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2020 and won the Golden Lion award for the best film of the Festival. It later won four Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Frances McDormand), Best Director (Chloe Zhao) as well as Best Motion Picture (Frances McDormand, Peter Spears, Mollye Asher, Dan Janvey, Chloe Zhao).
