Book Bridge is conceived as a multilingual, three-day festival that brings together authors from different language groups.
Book Bridge celebrates and nurtures literary talent in Croatia and hosts domestic and foreign thinkers and authors.
From compelling conversations to presentations of domestic and foreign authors, to literary workshops and discussions, Book Bridge encourages community collaboration and reminds us of the importance of open dialogue building bridges between cultures and nations.
The festival takes place on Lopud, an island and all that comes with it. The island as an inspiration, an idyllic location, isolation in specific living conditions, or erhaps, a secret place for meetings and summer adventures. The island is also a meditative place, an inexhaustible source of creativity.
The aim of this festival is to be a meeting point for ideas and to explore and discuss developments in literature, art and society in general through the world of the written word.

Memory, Belonging, Storytelling
Ponta Lopud Book Bridge is dedicated to literature and to forging connections across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Conceived as a three-day festival bringing together Croatian and international writers, editors, publishers and artists, Book Bridge creates a space for dialogue, the exchange of ideas and new collaborations. Its programme explores the making of a literary work, contemporary themes and the role of storytelling in bringing different communities and cultures closer together.
The festival takes place from 17 to 19 September 2026 at the restored Rector’s Palace. This year’s programme brings the Croatian and Irish literary scenes into closer dialogue through conversations, author readings, storytelling evenings and presentations of new work.
Entitled Memory, Belonging, Storytelling, this year’s edition traces the journey of a story – from personal and collective memory, through writing, editing and publishing, to encounters with readers, other art forms and new contexts.
Themes of family, homeland, migration, conflict, loss, home and exile reveal how literature transcends linguistic, cultural and historical boundaries, allowing us to recognise the experience of others as part of our shared humanity.
Lopud is not merely the festival’s location, but an essential part of its creative setting. The island offers a certain sense of seclusion, while its slower rhythm makes room for focused conversations, new readings and the discovery of common ground. On Lopud, literature thus becomes a space for dialogue, inspiration and creation shared.
